The School's Responsibility

Schools have an obligation to create safe, protective environments. This requires commitment from leadership, clear policies, trained staff, and engaged parents.

1. Develop Clear Policies

Every school should have a written child protection policy that covers recruitment, supervision, response protocols, and reporting procedures.

2. Train All Staff

Regular training on recognizing warning signs, responding to disclosures, and preventing abuse should be mandatory for all school staff.

3. Teach Children About Body Safety

Age-appropriate curriculum on body autonomy, consent, and recognizing unsafe touches empowers children to identify and report abuse.

4. Create Multiple Reporting Channels

Children need trusted adults to report to. Schools should establish safe reporting mechanisms that ensure investigation and protection.

5. Engage Parents and Community

Prevention is most effective when schools partner with parents and community organizations. Regular communication builds shared commitment.

Getting Started

Start with a needs assessment. Identify gaps. Form a school protection committee. Develop your policy. Then implement with sustained commitment and regular evaluation.
